If you've ever been on a road trip with kids, you know what I'm talking about. There's the continuous whining, fighting between siblings, the boredom and  oh yeah, the constant stream of “Are we there yet?”

So to try and make it through (and hey, maybe even slightly enjoy) your trip with the kiddos, here are a few things you need to have for the journey.

  1. Games

Now a days, there are all kinds of travel games that can be played on-the-go. From Connect 4 to Battleship,  your old favorites are now in mini versions that can be easily taken anywhere.

Of course, in this age of electronics, I'm guessing your kids have some kind of handheld game that will also keep them busy on your road trip for hours on end.

  1. Snacks

Because kids like to eat! You will undoubtedly hear “I'm hungry” at least 200 times anytime you get in a car with your kids, I don't care if you're just running down the street to Walmart. So especially on a road trip, make sure you're stocked up and ready to feed the masses, even if you plan on stopping to eat. They will get hungry between stops, trust me.

  1. Security Items

Make sure they have what they like. It might be a favorite blanket , pillow, stuffed animal or book. Something that they can hold on to that's theirs from home will help alleviate stress. It will also bring them comfort and security in a situation that is different from their everyday life.

I'm going to add number 4 to the list-

      4. Patience

Because even after all this, being in a vehicle with children for hours can grate on anyone's nerves, no matter how much you love and adore the little guys/gals. Just tape a sign on the roof where the kids can see it that says ‘No, we are not there yet. Yes, we will tell you when we are'. That might help, if your kids can read yet, that is.
