Before you buy a new car, you'll want to make sure you've thought it through. Getting a car is a major purchase, and for most of us it means car payments, which can greatly affect our overall budget…and thus, way of life.
We've partnered with Lakeland Chrysler Jeep Dodge to bring you these tips.
There are definitely things you need to do before buying a new car that will not only make the whole experience go smoother, but will make sure you're setting yourself up for a good thing.
What You Absolutely Must Do Before Buying A New Car
Figure Out The Financials
Before even stepping foot into that showroom, you need to know what you can afford. Most of us tend to look at how much the payment will be only, but it's also wise to look at the total cost. After all, you'll be paying on this for awhile. You should know how much debt you can safely have in your budget so that if you're planning other large purchases down the road such as a home or a boat, you won't overextend yourself.
Get Your Own Financing
By getting your own financing pre-approved before you buy, you'll be confident when looking for that new car. You will already know how much you have to spend, so you can look at what's in your price range from the get-go and not bother with the cars that aren't.
Know What You Need
When we shop without specifics, we can easily find things that might seem like they'll work in the moment, but aren't right for us long term. If you commute, you'll need a car that gets good gas mileage. If you have a big family, you'll want to consider a minivan or an SUV. Sure, most of us would LIKE a sports car, but it's not actually what we NEED.
Read the Reviews
I can't say this enough…read the reviews! You want to read about the make and model of car you're considering. But also, read the reviews of the dealership. Finding the right dealership can make all the difference between an enjoyable, positive experience and a stressful nightmare. It's not hard these days to look people up, head over to Facebook and see what other s have to say about their service.
When we're in stressful situations, we often make the wrong decision because we feel pressured. If you know you need a new car by a certain time frame, give yourself plenty of time to car shop. Heading out and expecting to find something in one day, although it can happen, will probably make the whole experience a lot more stressful than it needs to be.
