If you are a creative type – and I’m guessing you are – then you have most likely suffered at one time or another from  Bright Shiny Object Syndrome, or BSO. BSO is a naughty little bug that pops up from time to time for women entrepreneurs and can wreak havoc on your life.

Are You Chasing A Bright Shiny Object?The symptoms include distraction, over-spending, brief, yet intense bursts of enthusiasm, and eventual regret and letdown.

So how can you tell if you are experiencing a great new business idea or a case of BSO? Let’s examine.

BSO’s most typically appear when you have hit the “messy middle” part of another business idea you are working on. Messy middle’s are the tough phases of business when the excitement of starting wears off and the hard, nose-to-the-grindstone, work begins. As a result, you may end up chasing after something new that, on the surface, looks appealing.

Say you start a blog. It’s exciting and fun in the beginning right?  But when you keep writing for 5, maybe 10 people for months on end, it’s easy to be swayed by a new business idea or coaching program or e-course that promises riches.

If you are working on your business idea and things feel hard, then beware of something new, fun and shiny taking your attention away. That’s when you’re most vulnerable.

BSO’s may promise “quick money” or the ideal lifestyle you want, which make it feel like the perfect thing to do when you’re struggling.
