I know, it’s winter. So why am I sharing the best plus size beach outfit ideas today?
One: I’m missing the beach!
And two: It can be hard to know what to wear to the beach when you’re plus size.
So I thought what better way to bring me (and you) a little closer to the beach than to shop for plus size beach wear?
I thought it sounded like a great idea! Let’s find some good options in plus size beach fashion, and where to find it!

If you’re a plus size woman, you might think there aren’t nice options for you out there. But I’m here to tell you (and show you) that there are! You can find plus size beach dresses, plus size T-shirts, , plus size maxi dresses, and even plus size jumpsuits. You just have to know where to look!
Here are some of my favorite plus size beach outfit ideas.
Plus Size Graphic T-Shirts
You can never have enough T-Shirts, in my humble opinion. And there’s nothing better to wear to the beach than a t-shirt with a cute beach saying on the front! Women’s beach t-shirts come in all sizes. The one below is from Life is Good and runs up to an XXXL.
I’m a huge fan of the Life is Good brand and own at least a half dozen of their t-shirts myself. I really like the way they fit, the XXL’s are fairly loose around the middle.
The pretty colors and uplifting, encouraging and fun phrases make them a great option in plus size beachwear.
Plus Size Women’s Blouses
Something like this Plus Size Tunic on Zulily would be sweet for a trip to the beach. Slip it on over a cami or tank top and wa-la, you have some extra coverage without it being extra hot! Plus it’s gorgeous!
Women’s plus size blouses come in a wide variety of colors and styles. You can find quite a few trendy plus size shirts at Society+ starting at $7 and up. Be sure to check for their final sale items as they have some great bargains and you can find plus size tops cheap!
Plus Size Beach Dresses
Wearing a comfy and lightweight dress to the beach makes it so easy to be comfortable. Not to mention you can just wear your swimsuit right underneath a plus size tropical dress for an easy change!
Some of my favorite places to find beach dresses in plus size are Jane, Zulily, Ross Dress for Less, Cents of Style and Lane Bryant. (Be sure to watch for Lane Bryant clearance sale as well as their regular sales. You can usually get around 40% off their regular prices!)
Plus Size Jumpsuits and Rompers
Something like this faux-wrap jumpsuit over at Lane Bryant looks just perfect for a relaxing day at the beach! Normally I’m not a big fan of jumpsuits (something to do with having to get entirely naked every time I pee maybe!) but I’d definitely be willing to give this trendy plus size jump suit a try!
I also found this plus size denim jumpsuit at, would you believe, Amazon of all places! It does come in regular sizes too but goes up to XXL.
Plus Size Capris & Leggings
Plus size capri leggings and plus size capri jeans are both a great choice to wear to the beach. Know why? You won’t have to roll up your pants to get in the water!
If dresses aren’t your thing then this is a great option. Leggings are so comfy and can be worn with an tank top, t-shirt or over-sized shirt. And blue jean capris can be worn with anything from t-shirts to bathing suit tops!
I personally have found that Lane Bryant has good quality plus size leggings. My daughter has four pairs from there and they have held up very well. While I’ll admit some are a little on the pricey side, again, watch for a Lane Bryant coupon code if you shop online. If you sign up for their mailing list you’ll get a regular Lane Bryant in store coupon in the mail every month or so.
Another place I’ve recently found good leggings is Old Navy. In fact, I have a pair of these plus size leggings, only mine are black (not sure if they have that color anymore). I love that they are affordable, especially if you’re lucky enough to get in on a sale (which Old Navy offers often).
Plus Size Shorts
There is a nice selection of plus size shorts nowadays, and I’m not talking the bright colored Bermuda shorts of the past either. Although if that’s your thing, go with it! You do YOU, mama! It’s just nice to have a wide range of options like the same blue jean modern shorts that everyone else is wearing.
Last summer I had to invest in new shorts as our family went to Disneyland in August, and it was HOT! I got several pair from Torrid and was very happy with them, they fit well and are super comfortable.
Maxi dresses are terrific for a casual day out at the beach. Perfect for a day strolling with your toes in the water, am I right?
If you’re looking for plus size maxi dresses cheap, Zulily has a variety of options that are very reasonably priced. And we know how important it is to stick to your budget when shopping for clothing.
Baseball caps are some of the best sun protection hats out there. These women’s beach baseball caps are so great! Beach hats with sayings are always lots of fun, I couldn’t help but chuckle when I saw the ones below.
Not only are hats great for containing wind blown beach hair, but they also help shield your face from the sun. So wearing a hat to the beach is a win-win!
Of course who goes to the beach without a beach tote? Beach bags are an absolute necessity, especially when you have kids. Because you always have to bring half the house when you go anywhere!
There are all kinds of beach totes to fit any style, from a large beach bag to a beach backpack. Canvas beach totes and mesh beach totes are super popular this year too. Cute beach bags are kind of my thing (well that and the beach!) and this one I found really made me smile. And want it.
I hope these plus size beach outfit ideas have you thinking about planning your next beach trip. I know I am! Which is your favorite beach wear item? Share it with us in the comments!
